This is a relentlessly external journal, isn’t it? I sense almost a desperation to do anything but think. Given what’s happening in the larger world, his attempt to control his local one makes sense, but about now he must be feeling that Nature is conspiring against him.
That’s a very astute observation. Even as he wrote this the Royal Oak lay capsized at Scapa Flow (thanks for the onwar.com link, JL3rd). There’s a chance he’s heard the news by wireless…how will the media handle the news, come to think of it?
The tension is palpable.
